Family!
Snow?! lol. no surprise though! it is the middle of
November! I must say I'm happy I don't have to deal with snow, but I do miss
it. Everybody here wears coats right now...at the same time I'm sweating my
brains out...don't wear coats when its that warm people! :) that does worry me
about the summers though. I'm gonna die. lol.
Elder F has been out for 10 months (on island, so not
including the MTC). He likes to cook as well. Yesterday we made brownies in a
toaster oven. yeah...sounds delicious right? He's in the Army. He likes to run
and I don't :) He has awesome Chinese! He says right now mine is as good as his
was after 3 move calls. That gives me some hope, but we'll see :) He has 2
little brothers and a younger sister. I don't know what else to say...We get
along very well.
I was eating lunch at a Less Active's restaurant and saw the
election results on the TV. Everybody is super interested in it for some
reason. lol. Kinda sad, but I don't care too much.
I got a card from Grandma Wolf that she sent on October
26th. It took exactly 2 weeks to get here. We'll see how long the package
takes. Thanks!
I haven't had much new food since the first week. I drink a
lot of Wintermelon tea. It tastes like graham crackers. Sometimes they mix it
with milk or tapioca/starch peals. It's pretty good!
Well, I haven't done baptisms yet, but I have some cool
stories about investigators. There's a 29-year old man who has been
investigating since he was 16. He's had commandment/commitment issues in the
past, but he was contacted by missionaries on the street 13 years ago. They
came to his house and taught. The rest of his family were all baptized but he wasn't.
On Friday he told us he wants to be baptized. He's doing it on the 24th! Yay!!!
We also have 2 other investigators who we gave baptism dates for Dec 8th! We
have 4 kids who we teach all at once and then 2 more separate young people.
Getting permission to be baptized for kids is hard here, but we're trying our
best. We've had really good first lessons this week and all have other lessons
set up. I got my first "add" this week! an add is when you talk to
someone on the street (usually) and they set up a specific time to meet. We're
meeting this Sunday evening. I also talked to a homeless, crazy guy in a park
for 15 minutes...didn't go anywhere...he just wanted to talk about his dog. :)
During a lesson in the church, a drunk guy walked in (about 8:40pm) and started
yelling at us in Chinese then left. The whole time he didn't blink and had a
hand in his pocket. Afterward Elder F. said he was saying he was offended
by someone from the church in a different area and someone tried to steal from
him or something. We went around the church to lock up afterward and make sure
he was gone. He had unlocked all the outside doors and there was a sledge
hammer in the hallway that wasn't there when we got there...Kinda scary, but
nothing happened.
Communicating with people is slowly getting better. Still
really hard, but getting better. Definitely learning faster than in the MTC
though!
My apartment has a stove, 2 toaster ovens, a waffle iron, a
panini maker, a microwave, washer/dryer, fridge/freezer. Not too bad. Ovens
don't exist here though. lol. I'll take more pictures of it for next week.
Taiwan is still really cool! Biking all over sometimes sucks
because there's hills all over and no matter where we go we need to go up one.
We've had to hurry several times to make it other places. My ankles have battle
scars from my bike pedals already, so that's good :) People are always doing
fireworks all over. It's kinda crazy. and loud. Talking to people on the
streets is less scary now. I mostly talk to scooter-people, but sometimes we'll
do cars or people walking. Parks and Tracting (knocking on doors) isn't very
effective usually, but we do that too. There's very lax laws, but people are
good. You can smoke indoors (like in this internet cafe) :P and traffic is a
game of chicken everywhere you go. NOBODY drives defensively. haha. It's okay
though.
Every Wednesday we teach a free English class. I am teaching
the advanced class :) My English is pretty good I guess! I had one
student - a 10 year-old girl - this week. I didn't know what to talk about
either...so yeah...
Just so you know, I use a family picture in every lesson
with a new person. People love pictures. :D
I don't have a ton of pictures this week...I'll keep trying
to take pictures though.
I've memorized the first vision in Chinese pretty well. I've
recited it about 10 times in lessons.
We did the 27 flights of stairs again. We've done P-90 X a
couple times too. I'm so sore, but I'm going to lose weight quickly here. We
burn SO many calories every day. :)
I miss you all a lot! I'm thinking about you and praying for
you! I'm doing fine, so don't worry about me :)
I'll send some pictures now, but until next week,
I love you all!
Have a good day/night!!!
-Elder Wolf
